The Signal In The Noise: Art Therapy & Mental Illness

The Signal In The Noise: Art & Mental Illness from Michael Travis on Vimeo.

At the Bethlem Royal Hospital in London (the world's oldest mental health institution), art is used as a valuable tool for self-expression and as a form of occupational therapy. This documentary features interviews with Bethlem's therapists, as well as the numerous artists (past and present) who have exhibited at the Bethlem Gallery. For over 150 years the hospital has actively collected artwork created by its patients, and it continues to provide opportunities for artists who have experienced mental health problems.
